Planned Giving

It is a myth that one must be wealthy to participate in planned giving. There are a variety of instruments available to make a planned gift. Planned giving is a financial gift that is planned well in advance by the donor. The beneficiary (Volunteers of America of Southwest California) is usually named in a will or trust. This type of gift is deferred to a future date. However, the donor receives immediate tax benefits. Many people find planned giving is more convenient than making intermittent donations. If you would like to find out more about making a planned gift, please call Volunteers of America’s Director of Development & Public Relations at 619.228.2049 or 1.800.862.1896. Thank you.

Here is a quick guide to in-kind gifts:

  • Cash equivalents, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other appreciating assets
  • Qualified retirement plans and IRAs
  • Investment real estate
  • Business interests and partnerships
  • Primary residence or vacation home
  • Life insurance policies
  • Art, antiques, jewelry, coins, stamps and other investment collectibles
  • Income streams, current and estimated from all sources.

Life Without Black People

This is a story of a little boy named Theo who woke up one morning and asked his mother, “Mom, what if there were no Black people in the world?”

Well, his mother thought about that for a moment, and then said “Son, follow me around today and let’s just see what it would be like if there were no Black people in the world.”
