Our Programs

Last year, Volunteers of America of Southwest California assisted more than 20,000 individuals and families within our service territory. Our programs focus on four primary areas:

Center provides emergency shelter services for homeless individuals and families for up to 30 days. Another component of the center offers housing and supportive care for higher-functioning adult males with mental disabilities.

Center provides therapeutic treatment to residents with a chronic mental illness and a co-occurring disorder linked to substance abuse.

Center offers a variety of treatment programs that support the continuum of care needed by individuals suffering from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. Services include: Sobering services, pre-treatment education, long-term residential and relapse prevention.

Provides quality care and supportive services for adult males who are transitioning from an incarcerated environment to civilian life. By participating in this program, residents are stabilized and work on issues affecting their parole status. The goal of the program is to equip clients with the personal skills and tools to become productive members of society. Program services include employment placement, educational assistance, anger management, family reunification, substance abuse counseling and community referrals.

Provides counseling and treatment to adults who are recovering from alcohol and drug dependencies. This center offers detoxification, long-term residential care, transitional living, inmate education and recovery services, and a dual diagnosis treatment program.

Offers a safe haven and a second chance for male youth who want to turn their life around. Through residential treatment plan, program staff focus on the youth as a complete individual in order to bring about positive changes in youth who are in trouble at home or with the law. A comprehensive range of medical, clinical and social services address the psychosocial, cognitive behavioral, educational and substance abuse treatment needs of residents. Residents benefit from a structured daily program, which includes educational training and development, computer-assisted learning, independent living skills, parenting classes, onsite family and client counseling, and anger management. Length of stay ranges from six months to one year. Center accepts referrals from Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Santa Barbara counties.

Provides support and outreach services to low-income and special-need families with children under 3 years of age. Program provides home-based and center-based services including free well baby and parent home visits, free child development center for children with parents who work or go to school, free nutritional and educational information, free parenting support groups, and free referrals to low-cost and no-cost community resources. Serves as a vital community link for parents/guardians with children 5 years of age or younger who would benefit from free classes and workshops related to job/computer training, educational assistance, adult literacy, parenting skills, prenatal education, voter registration and bilingual language development.
